‘Never-Ending Story’ Webinar:
The Evolution of North Point and Hong Kong’s Popular Culture
27 October 2020
The 50’s – 60’s was the beginning of Hong Kong’s transformation into a truly global city. North Point played a crucial role in this metamorphosis as new migrants brought global perspectives, blending Chinese and Western cultures.
Part of the ‘Never-Ending Story’ Webinar Series created by Culture for Tomorrow in support of the State Theatre Conservation Plan, Jacky Yu, founder of the “Old Photos of Hong Kong” Facebook page, will take you back to the glamour of the 1950s and 60s North Point community through the lens of archival photographs. He will be joined by Dr. Siu, one of Hong Kong’s foremost experts on local food culture and literature, who will explore the old-style western restaurants of North Point, and investigate the cultural influences “Soy Sauce Western Cuisine” – the quintessential flavours of Hong Kong – has had on modern Hong Kong.
